Both riders and pit crew should be aware of the list of essential spares, because the rider needs these if they go away on a trip without their usual crew – say a GB World Cup trip – or travel unaccompanied on a UCI training camp.

Bring them on an EvoDevo racing trip, take them to National Trophy races, have them handy at local leauges. You get the picture – you should have a spares bag with these things in it for any event away from home!

You can’t assume that there will be a bike shop selling high-end parts wherever you go, and if it’s Belgium during the Christmas period, you definitely can’t assume a bike shop will be open. Lots of places choose to close for a break over the holiday.

Essential

Replacement mech hanger (1 min, possibly 2)

Brake pads (1 set min, ideally 2)

Chain quick link

For electronic systems

Battery charger / spare battery

EU-UK plug adapter

Separate spare batteries for SRAM shifters

Desirable

Extra shoe studs

Spare chain

Gear cable

That's just 3 lists of 3 things. Easy!
