With thanks to cameraman Kev Brewer.

Sometimes you might need to reduce tyre pressures quickly on the fly. Most likely this will be in the middle of a really muddy race where your rider doesn't have enough grip and time is limited in the pits due to lots of bike washing.

Ideally you'd set the pressure with a gauge, but if you simply don't have time, do it by hand. Unscrew the valve, give it a couple of short sharp presses, and close the valve again.

Two short sharp taps will drop roughly 1psi (depending on how heavy handed you are).

Handy hint: use gentle, fingertip pressures when screwing and unscrewing, and pull outwards slightly even as you screw the valve back in. This prevents you accidentally letting more air out just as you thought you'd got it set.
