What to expect at sign on

IMPORTANT: To sign on you will need your BC racing license AND a letter of authorisation to race abroad from BC.


To get this, email or call BC and ask for one. It doesn’t usually take very long but allow a week to be on the safe side. The letter is valid for the season. Ask for a new one each year.



Sign on should be your first port of call on race day.


At events requiring parking passes, these will usually be in your signing on pack so you won’t be able to access the venue until you have signed on.


Note: the Dutch for sign on is inschrijving.



Plan ahead.


Check the location of sign on the day before the race. It will be specified in the technical guide.


The opening time is listed there too but this doesn't always match reality. We have been to a couple of events where the actual opening time has been a couple of hours later than the official time. If that's the case, there's nothing you can do. The staff just shrug so make sure you stay calm and review your plan if necessary.

 

Sign on is usually in a large building removed from the course. Typically a sports centre or other municipal building, but it can also be in churches or factories, for example. It's usually a least a kilometre from the course, but could even be several kilometres away.

 

At sign on / inschrijving.


There are usually different sign on point for different age categories. Show your license: they will look at it but won’t keep it. They may or may not ask to see your letter of authoraisation.

 

You’ll get a rider pack containing numbers (one back and two arms). Do not cut your numbers down, you may get fined. When the pros do it they usually opt to pay the fine.


Your transponder will be contained in your back number. The transponder will be cut out when you finish, but you may need to keep your numbers to gain free entry to the venue after your race. Sometimes you can use the number, sometimes you have to return it to signing on in exchange for an entrance pass.



Passes

 

Your rider pack usually contains 3 passes. These might be all the same, in which case any helper can access any area, or they might be specifically 2 pit passes and one start/finish pass. Sometimes in the past these have been different colours, but sometimes they are labelled.

(Note that 3 pit passes have previously been given out at Diegem due to the split pit.) Sometimes you'll get simple wristbands like in the UK, but at SuperPrestige events there are often lanyards.


Please remember that EvoDevo will need a pass if you are on a trip with us. It is a requirement of accepting a place on the trip that you enable us to access the pits, even if that means that one of your party has to pay to enter the venue.


 

Go to the venue


After singing on, follow signs for Parking Renners, which may be subdivided by category in different locations. Where there is no separate junior women’s race, junior women are entitled to park with elite women. However, if you are on an EvoDevo trip and want the full benefit of our support, you will need to park where we set up our base. This is often with the junior men, because females with elite passes can access this area, whereas the juniors cannot come and park in elite.


We understand that this is frustrating when you may be entitled to a closer parking spot, but it's the only way we can deliver our trips. It's possible that when junior women’s races become more commonplace that all junior parking, male and female, will be together in future anyway.
